Canon communicates the development of what will be the next flagship which has been rumored for months, if not years: EOS R1, the ultimate for professionals and news agencies.
It’s almost time for the Paris Olympics and Canon certainly can’t stand by and watch. There were many occasions when product managers told us to “stay calm”, that something big was coming and that it wouldn’t disappoint anyone’s expectations. By now what has been created around the EOS R1 has become almost unmanageable, the result of out of control hype that Canon will have to know how to satisfy as best as possible. What is certain is that the company has never made mistakes and that when it arrived in a segment it then made it its own, just look at the path taken with mirrorless technology and culminating years ago with EOS R3: every step has been studied carefully. better and never made me regret the wait, on the contrary.
EOS R1 has therefore become a huge, bulky project, highly anticipated by everyone. A model that doesn’t yet exist and which has made headlines like never before. What is beyond any doubt is that the technologies used will be innovative and this first official press release, although very veiled, could be a first testimony of this even if we do not go into detail.
What Canon communicates is not a product, it is its idea. And now we have to make do with it. The CMOS sensor it doesn’t have a serial number, it doesn’t have actual pixelation, it will just be “new”. The image processing system resulting from a dual processor will also be new: next to the reliable DigiX the innovative will appear Digi Accelerator which will unlock high-speed processing of high volume of data and optimize autofocus. As? For example, ensuring that in frenetic actions, thanks to the support of AI algorithms, the focus remains on the subject even if others overlap it (something the EOS-1D X Mark III also did with disturbing elements in the scene); Furthermore, the new one will also make its appearance “Action Priority” AF function which, once the subject is recognized, will automatically move the area onto him. Finally, a new noise reduction algorithman improved version of the previously developed feature and available only as part of the Digital Photo Professional software.
These aspects, combined with a more stable and faster connection and transfer capacity, will mean that the EOS R1 can also be considered a flagship compared to the EOS R3. To date, the model has been framed as ideal for sports professionals, video makers and press agencies.
Could it be the actual counterpart of the Sony A1? We’ll see, there’s very little left now…
