The Italian economy accelerates. In the first quarter of 2024, GDP grew by 0.3% compared to the previous three months, which closed at +0.1% (figure revised downwards from +0.2%) This was announced by Istat based on preliminary estimates. On a trend basis, GDP increased by 0.6% while the growth achieved for 2024 is equal to +0.5%.
The data communicated today is corrected for calendar effects and seasonally adjusted and marks the third consecutive positive change, after the decline recorded in the second quarter of 2023.
The first quarter of 2024, specifies Istat, had three more working days than the previous quarter and the same number of working days compared to the first quarter of 2023.
The cyclical variation of +0.3% is the synthesis of an increase in added value in all sectors: agriculture, forestry and fishing, industry and services. On the demand side, there is a negative contribution from the national component (gross of inventories) and a positive contribution from the net foreign component.
In the same first quarter, Germany returned to growth in Europe, with a 0.2% increase in GDP higher than analysts’ expectations, and Spain achieved a more decisive increase in product of 0.7%. Even in France, GDP grew by 0.2%.
