Bradyseism in the Campi Flegrei and tremors on Vesuvius, summit with the Prefecture of Naples: «No particular critical issues»

This morning a summit was held with the Prefecture of Naples to take stock of the situation in light of the seismic events recorded in the last 48 hours Campi Flegrei and Vesuvius. Present, in addition to the mayors and the prefect, were the regional Civil Protection, the ASL Napoli 1, the ASL Napoli 2 Nord, the police forces and theVesuvian Observatory.

During the summit, we read in a note from the Prefecture, “critical issues of particular importance were not highlighted, as no reports were received from the populations of said municipalities”. «Regarding the earthquake that occurred yesterday, of magnitude 3.9 with its epicenter in the sea, the Mayor of Bacoli reported that the Municipality has received around ten reports and requests for inspections at the homes, mainly located in the historic center of that territory, following which the necessary checks were carried out, without finding any structural damage, even if, as a mere precaution, a family made up of five people was removed from their home and some road sections were closed due to falling rubble from damaged cornices”, continues the note. Regarding the possibility of landslides from the cliffs overlooking the sea, the port authorities announced that, the note continues, «from the checks carried out by sea yesterday along the Phlegraean coast, no differences with respect to the ordinary state of the ribs were empirically found, although we reserved the right to repeat the checks in a more analytical way”. Furthermore, during the meeting, the situation was taken stock “also with reference to the earthquake recorded at the base of the crater of Vesuviusagain this morning at 5.55 am, from the seismographs of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, of magnitude 3.1 , which was followed by two other events of lesser intensity, with magnitudes of 1.9 and 1.8. According to the experts of the aforementioned Institute, the event, although of a certain importance, is not indicative of particular dynamics. Also in relation to this earthquake – concludes the note – there are no reports of damage or critical situations. However, attention remains high on the progress of these phenomena, with continuous monitoring and verification of the most vulnerable areas by all the institutional bodies responsible for intervening, according to their competences, in case of need.».

«I thank the prefect, with whom we are constantly in contact, for the sensitivity shown in convening this summit. We are working, all together, to tackle the phenomenon and verify any critical issues, but above all to demonstrate that we are there, and we are doing everything possible to guarantee the safety of the territory – declares the mayor of Pozzuoli Gigi Manzoni – We have always had to deal with bradyseism, and today we have the tools to do it safely.”

«A fundamental point – he continued – that should not be underestimated must be that of communication which already has its own directives for this phenomenon. We must continue to inform ourselves through official sources: anyone who holds any level of responsibility must try not to “spectacle” because there is a risk of entering into complicated social dynamics. Tourism, commerce and the serenity of citizens are at stake here and we work 24 hours a day to guarantee everyone’s serenity.”
