Which is why Guido Crosetto has it removed instantly from the position of president of the Military Geographical Institute. Then theinternal investigation which led to the Suspension disciplinary from employment for 11 months. For Defense the general showed “lack of sense of responsibility” and compromised “the prestige and reputation of the Administration to which they belong”. A decision arrived at the end of February immediately after the news of the investigation into Vannacci for incitement to racial hatred by the Rome Prosecutor’s Office. The general was also reported for defamation from Paola Egonu for the sentences in the book on the athlete’s somatic traits. Vannacci is also under investigation for embezzlement and fraud for “undue refunds for dinners and allowances in Moscow”.
Salvini immediately sided with Vannacci, criticizing the investigations and also lashing out against his government colleague: “An investigation a day, we are at ridiculous, how scary is the general? Long live freedom of thought and speech, long live the Armed Forces and the Police Forces, long live the men and women who every day defend the honour, freedom and security of Italians”, commented the leader of the League. Crosetto had replied bluntly: “Let them find out, perhaps the comments will be appropriate.” Now the electoral adventure begins for the general with a candidacy that Vannacci himself defines as “independent” in the League list, while in the Northern League many do not hide their bad moods for the secretary’s choice to include a person “unrelated to the movement” on the list.
