The “method of violence” implemented in Beccaria juvenile prison in Milan “had its main foundation in the omissive and malicious insolvency contribution of a series of top figures, with a position of effective guarantee towards the inmates” and “among these” the former “commander of the Penitentiary Police”, Francesco Ferone, suspended yesterday , “who knowingly facilitated and strengthened the criminal determinations of his subordinates”. The deputy Letizia Mannella and the prosecutors Rosaria Stagnaro and Cecilia Vassena wrote it in the request for precautionary custody which gave rise to the order of investigating judge Stefania Donadeo.

Started this morning the first guarantee interviews of the 13 penitentiary police officers who ended up in prison yesterday in the Milanese investigation which pierced the veil on an alleged “system” of “repeated violence, harassment, corporal punishment, humiliation” and “punitive” expeditions against at least a dozen minors detained in the Beccaria penal institution in Milan .

From what has become known, the first interrogations of the arrested policemen (eight others were suspended from their duties as a precautionary measure), in front of the investigating judge Stefania Donadeo, will begin around 12 and should be held in the Bollate prison.

In the ordinanceresulting from the investigations of prosecutors Rosaria Stagnaro and Cecilia Vassena, coordinated by the deputy Letizia Mannella and conducted by the Flying Squad and the Penitentiary Police themselves, the crimes, including by omission, of torture, mistreatment, injuries, false ideology and, in one case, attempted sexual violence are contested. Crimes aggravated by impaired defense, abuse of power, minor age of the victims and frivolous motives. An investigation born from the reports of the municipal councilor David Gentili and the Guarantor of the rights of prisoners of Palazzo Marino, Francesco Maisto, and which then merged with the stories of psychologists, parents and the ex-prisoners themselves, victims of violence that occurred between the fall of 2022 and last March. Also on file are wiretaps and footage from internal cameras.

Today, from 12.30 onwards in the Bollate prison in Milan, the first agents will be interrogated, including Roberto Mastronicola, Maurizio Cimino, Giovanni Blandino, Mario Pisano and Salvatore Imbimbo. It is possible that, also in order to be able to study all the documents on the defensive front, those arrested could choose the option of making use of the right not to answer. The others who ended up in prison will then be questioned by the judge tomorrow and next Friday.
The interrogations of the eight suspended officers, including Francesco Ferone, the former commander of the Penitentiary Police at Beccaria, will be held next week.
