He was called Roberto Campigotto the 57-year-old operator of the Ares 118, who died of a heart attack while rescuing a man with cardiac arrest in progress. It was during the resuscitation operations that he also felt ill and was helped by his colleagues. The tragedy occurred yesterday afternoon, Saturday 20 April, just outside Rome.
The rescue driver died while he was urgently transported to the Monterotondo hospital aboard the medical vehicle that arrived together with the ambulance: despite the doctors’ efforts there was nothing that could be done for him, and it was not possible to do other than noting his death.
Resident in Sacrofano, the man leaves two children aged 8 and 13 and his wife. “There were three on board the ambulance, a driver and two medics, so it was possible to rescue Roberto. If, as unfortunately happens all too often, there had been two of them it would have been impossible, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough“, explains a colleague on duty on 118 to Fanpage.it.
