The mayor of Ponte di Legno clarified that Norovirus is only found in the waters of the Tonale and added: “Who knows how many aqueducts have contaminated water and don’t know it.”

“Who knows how many aqueducts there are that have water contaminated by Norovirus and don’t know it.” With these words the mayor of Ponte di Legno, Ivan Faustinelli, explained to Fanpage.it what is happening in the areas surrounding your municipality. Since the ordinance was issued that prohibits residents from drinking tap water because traces of Norovirus were found, according to the mayor, an exaggerated media case has started: “The municipality of Ponte di Legno is not in a state emergency even if the problem exists, but only in the Tonale area

What happened on the Tonale pass

It all started with two girls hospitalized for acute gastroenteritis. They were staying in a hotel in Tonale and were taken to Edolo hospital to be treated. Similar cases, then, have been detected in the areas surrounding the famous pass, both in the province of Brescia and in that of Trento. Thus, assuming the presence of some virus airborne or waterborne, the analysis of the Mountain ATS on the waters of the water network in the area.

The mayor is keen to point out that the first hypothesis of ATS is not that of contaminated water, but of a virus that spreads through the air since there have been cases of acute gastroenteritis in various areas, not only in Ponte di Legno or on the Tonale, but hundreds of them spanning the two provinces. The analyzes on the water began anyway: “These are very particular analyzes that are not done often and have had limited results: traces of Norovirus were found only in the Tonale aqueduct”, explains the mayor, “Which is a limited and independent aqueduct“.

“Norovirus is not in Ponte di Legno”

The problem is therefore limited only to that aqueduct and does not directly affect the municipality of Ponte di Legno which has a fairly developed water network, which supplies around 30 thousand people. But Norovirus was not found here. Furthermore, he explains that even if he had been found “there is no equation between polluted water and sick people. People have problems that don’t depend on the water they drink. And then who knows in how many aqueducts there are traces of Norovirus and no one knows it.”

The mayor talks about media case exaggerated and that its Municipality, with all the annexed hamlets, it is not in a state of emergency. L’order it was issued anyway, as it should be, and all the checks will be carried out. “I hope that the problem will be resolved in a few weeks, before the summer because if there is no one on the Tonale now, in the summer it will be filled with tourists and if there was still Norovirus in the aqueduct it would be a problem”.
