The 34-year-old was hit in Ronco all’Adige in the Lower Veronese area, after having fled the community where she was serving her sentence. He had received a 4-year sentence for killing father, two-year-old son and grandmother

The German Angelika Hutter had just escaped from the community before being hit on Sunday on Provincial Road 19 near Via Saletto in Ronco all’Adige in the Lower Veronese area. This is what emerges two days after the accident of the thirty-four-year-old German, who two years ago had agreed to a prison sentence four years and eight months for having run over and killed Marco Antoniello, 47, his son Mattia, 2, and the child’s grandmother Mariagrazia Zuin, 67, on 6 July 2023 in Santo Stefano di Cadore in the Belluno area.

The thirty-four year old was actually serving her sentence in the Ronco facility which had been assigned to her by the judge after being in prison until March 2024. Now Angelika Hutter is in very serious conditions in intensive care department of the Borgo Trento hospital due to the injuries sustained in the impact with the car.

Camera footage and the accident

The story began shortly before 4pm in the “Don Girelli” facility in Ronco all’Adige which houses criminals and sufferers of mental disorders. Camera footage from the community filmed Angelika Hutter as she approached the hedge that delimits the property of the shelter. We then see the thirty-four-year-old slipping between the plants and climbing over the gate, heading towards the “Ronchesana” road, an artery that connects some towns in the Lower Veronese area. His escape was immediately detected by the facility managers and, as per protocol, the police were immediately notified. The prompt reaction of the community managers, however, was not enough to prevent the investment which “took place – states Giuseppe Ferro, director of the Casa di Don Girelli – ten minutes after the alert was launched to the carabinieri”.

Once she regained her freedom, the German designer reached the Provincial where, however, his escape plan it jumped because it was hit by a Volvo 760 c, driven by a seventy-seven year old from Verona. A car from the Legnago traffic police immediately intervened on site carried out the surveys as well as an emergency Verona ambulance which transported the thirty-four year old in a very serious condition and in a state of unconsciousness to the Borgo Trento hospital in Verona.

The investigations

The agents are maintaining the utmost confidentiality about the dynamics of the investment and do not even reveal whether she was hit while crossing the road or whether she was “run over” when he was on the edge of the Provincial Road. All that remains is to give space to hypotheses such as that of a fast run by the woman with a sudden insertion onto the main road. Perhaps he wanted to return to Aholming, his home town with just over two thousand souls in Bavaria. A voluntary gesture is not excluded even if in the Don Girelli structure they seem to turn up their noses a bit at this hypothesis. Hutter, those responsible say, never showed any suicidal intent or desire to escape. There was some difficulty communicating with her because he only spoke German and a few words of English while he knew little about Italian even though he was learning it. She participated in the facility’s initiatives and just a few days ago she left the shelter with the other guests for a visit to the markets without arousing any concern or suspicion of escape. He never showed any discomfort and was following his rehabilitation program without any particular setbacks.

Plea bargaining and compensation

Angelika Hutter, defended by Giuseppe Triolo, he had agreed to four years and eight months in prison on 8 October 2024 in front of the preliminary hearing judge Elisabetta Scalozzi of Belluno. The plea bargaining was also made possible because in the meantime the families of the three victims had been compensated by the insurance company. Yesterday, however, they did not want to speak after the accident that happened to Hutter in the Veronese area. «How can you comment on a story like this? – asks the lawyer Alberto Berardi who assisted the family during the Belluno investigation phase – It is a tragedy on top of another tragedy». Hutter never apologized to Marco Antoniello’s wife and mother of little Mattia, writing only one letter in her own hand, delivered to the judge on the occasion of the preliminary hearing before the Belluno judge.
