Sister Cristina, the Sicilian nun of the Ursulines of the Holy Family who in 2014 had won the talent show The Voice Of Italy, decided to embark on a new life path, leaving the consecrated life and continuing to think only of music. Now she is Cristina Scuccia.
«If I look back, I look at my journey with a deep sense of gratitude – says Cristina Scuccia -. Change is a sign of evolution but it’s always scary because it’s easier to anchor yourself to your certainties rather than questioning yourself. Is there a right or wrong? I believe that with courage one must only listen to one’s heart». The nun with the most famous voice in Italy told today, for the first time, in the studio on Verissimo, a program broadcast on Canale 5 hosted by Silvia Toffanin, that she does not intend to abandon her journey of faith and that she is grateful for everything what he has lived up to now.
Born in 1988 in Vittoria (Ragusa) and raised in Comiso (Ragusa), she thrilled and amazed the audience right from her audition for the talent show The Voice of Italy by presenting the cover of Alicia Keys’ No One and obtaining with the video of performing more than 90 million views on YouTube in one week. During the edition of the Rai 2 talent show that saw her triumph, she duetted with artists of the caliber of Ricky Martin and Kylie Minogue. She then she also participated in “Dancing with the Stars”.
In 2019, however, she had made her final vows in the diocese of Milan, where she has lived for the last 10 years in a small religious community together with Sister Agata and Sister Carmela.
After a childhood tied to Christian values and parish life, during her adolescence the young woman drifted away from the faith after suffering heavy pains in her family. She then devoted herself to her great passion: singing. Then participating in the auditions for a musical, organized by the Ursuline Sisters of the Holy Family, Cristina, pushed by her mother, had a leading role: a courageous nun, returning to community life and getting closer to God again. After the novitiate in Brazil she understood that singing was a gift for getting closer to people.
