Antonello Venditti beats Madonna. The Roman singer-songwriter has overtaken the queen of pop in the rankings of the busiest free music events. The artist himself made it known on Instagram, where he shared a post from a fan of Lady Ciccone. “But look at that”, commented Venditti, immediately filling up with likes and positive comments (including those from Mara Venier and Noemi). A few days ago – for the end of her The Celebration Tour – Madonna held a free concert in Rio de Janeiro, on Copacabana beach, in front of one and a half million viewers. But in 2001 there were many more people at the Circus Maximus for Venditti who was celebrating Roma’s championship: well 1,800,000 spectators.

Leading this special ranking is Rod Stewart’s 1994 performance, again in Copacabana, in front of 3.5 million people. It follows Jean-Michel Jarre’s blockbuster in Moscow in 1997 (3.5 million spectators) for the celebrations of the 850th anniversary of the Russian capital, third place for the Brazilian singer-songwriter Jorge Ben Jor who once again attracted the legendary beach of Rio three million people to celebrate New Year’s Eve in 1993. In fourth place again Jarre in Paris and then fifth Antonello Venditti at the Circus Maximus.
