Piero Pelù also depressed by the end of Litfiba: «And to say that we are mature people, not a boy band»

Also depressed by the end of Litfiba. Piero Pelù talked about it in an interview published yesterday by Corriere della Sera after writing a few weeks ago on social media that «in this period I fought depression and only thanks to the Goddess of music I came out of it, I pulled out my nails, my teeth, spat out my soul, wrote new and very urgent things and developed other ideas which had remained locked in my boundless archive.” To the Courier he adds that «I sought professional help which I still turn to, and I managed to open some beautiful doors».

The origin of depression? To the hearing problems (see below) “were added the thoughts related to the end of Litfiba”, sanctioned with a last tour that ended on 22 December 2022 in Milan. When the interviewer Andrea Laffranchi asks him if it ended badly with Ghigo Renzulli, Perlù replies that «my being a Litfiba deep down, I even tattooed it on my belly at the end of the tour, hoped that the egos would calm down and that, despite the announcements, it wouldn’t be the last tour. And instead… You don’t change people’s minds. And to say that we are mature people, not a boy band. There are those who want to remain anchored to the past, see also the historical moment we are experiencing today, and those who instead try to keep alive the word freedom which in the case of an artist means experimenting”.

In the interview, the singer addresses the topic of the hearing disorder which kept him away from music for a while and which contributed to his malaise. «I was in the recording studio and I suffered an acoustic shock. I had changed headphones and the sound engineer didn’t do the calculations well: I lost consciousness and fell to the ground. Added to that were my mistakes: I didn’t do the checks immediately and I overlooked the problem. The damage is irreversible, I have recovered a little but there is no healing from these shocks. I can surround the problem with technology. A well-calibrated acoustic system allows me to face the stage again: I have to create sound hell outside, but in headphones it’s as if I had Casadei».

The singer also talks about the fact that today singers don’t expose themselves. Ghali, on the other hand, «did well to say and do what he said and did in Sanremo on the Palestinian issue. Plus he had a good song too. I too have never stopped exposing myself. On that issue, I am worried about Israel’s thirty-year apartheid towards the Palestinians, but I also think that Hamas’s apartheid is terrorism.” According to Pelù, Berlusconi’s fault lies in the tendency of other singers not to expose themselves. «He instilled indifference and opportunism within each of us. I also have a song in the drawer called It’s all Silvio’s fault. Sooner or later I’ll get it out… Today, however, we prefer to talk about the Ferragnez’s evil deeds.”

Pelù posted today Damn heartsecond extract from the album Deserts which will be released on June 7th. «I sing “I need you”: we rarely say it, but we need others so as not to get lost in those black holes I’m dealing with».

The album will contain among other songs a new solo version of My name is never again for the 25th anniversary. At the time the piece was with Ligabue and Jovanotti, «with whom we are in touch to understand what to do» although «today I think it is difficult to find the right words for a new anti-war song, perhaps rappers could do it».

As for Renzulli, he released a new piece from his instrumental project No_Vox at the beginning of April. Is titled Circusthey also play there Fabrizio Simoncioni (keyboards), Richard Nielsen Cocciarelli (drums and percussion) and Mauro Lallo (bass) and it is «a folkedelic and unconventional piece, whose initial idea was to combine the rhythm of a Neapolitan tammurriata with harmonies, melodies and rock sounds».
