Mario Biondi, born Mario Ranno, was born in Catania on 28 January 1971. He is an Italian singer-songwriter and arranger. His pseudonym takes up that of his father Giuseppe Ranno, singer, aka Stefano Biondi. 12 years old sings in Gregorian choirs in church and in the Sicilian squares. After various experiences and apprenticeships around Italy, he perfected English which became the language in which he sang. From 1988 he began supporting “big names” of the time, such as Ray Charles. Passionate about soul, he grew up listening to records by Lou Rawls, Al Jarreau and Isaac Hayes and others. Important for his artistic growth was his friendship with his fellow citizen Gianni Bella. The singer’s recording debut dates back to 2004, the year in which his first studio album This is what you are was released. The song that gives the album its title is still one of the artist’s best-known songs today. In the singer’s musical career, a fundamental role was played by the English DJ Norman Jay, who chose a piece of one of his more famous songs as the jingle for his program broadcast on Radio Montecarlo.
Private life: 10 children and a single marriage
He has 10 children but only one marriage. The one that was celebrated on September 16, 2023 with Romina Lunari. Mario Biondi said yes for the first time with the mother of the last two. The ceremony took place on a terrace facing the gulf of Sorrento. “We invited only 40 of the people closest to me and my wife, a very intimate, exchange ceremony” – the singer told Corriere della Sera.
«My tribe – he says – actually sometimes I call them the small town or the delegation. They give me great satisfaction and I am filled with love for them. They all appear in the video for “My favorite things”, a cover dedicated to them. They always seem few to me, perhaps because I love when there are many of us, when there is sharing. Having so many loves close by is an incredible blessing. The eldest is studying to become a magistrate, the second is a graphic designer and the third a model, but both are also interested in music and are returning from a tour with Renato Zero.”
Who are the mothers of the children
His first six children (Zoe, Marzio, Marica, Chiara, Ray and Louis Mario) were born from the relationship he had with Monica Farina, the singer’s partner for about fifteen years. Between 2013 and 2014, he had a liaison with the former Miss Italy contestant, Giorgia Albarello, with whom he had a little girl named Mia. Recently, Biondi became the father of two other girls, Mil and Matilde.
«The maternal part is fundamental. I am a working dad who takes care of and supports everyone, but mothers have more responsibilities than me of course. On weekends, when possible, we’ll all see each other together. On December 26th, come what may, we will all meet again, even mothers. They are called brothers, there are no half-brothers.”
The diet
A few years ago, the singer appeared to have lost a lot of weight. Many wondered whether this weight loss was the result of a particular diet or an illness. On that occasion, it was the singer himself who clarified the mystery. He had in fact explained that he had gone on a diet. «I lost 20 kilos, I take care of my diet for health reasons. I eliminated dairy products, starchy foods and alcohol»said Mario Biondi.
