Glen Benton responds to criticism for using Artificial Intelligence

In February, after i DEICIDE have announced the details of the new album “Banished By Sin“, many fans have raised controversy, accusing the group of having used artificial intelligence to create the album cover.

In a recent interview given to The Brutally Delicious Podcast and reported by Blabbermouth, the band leader, Glen Bentonresponded to the criticism:

“Well, people don’t realize that the album cover was made with Photoshop and a bit of artificial intelligence, but it’s a more modern version. And how ‘Legion‘ [il secondo album dei DEICIDE, pubblicato nel 1992]. When I made the cover of ‘Legion‘, computers were still a completely new thing. Nobody knew anything about three-dimensional graphics or anything like that and I was the first one to use the fucking thing to make that cover.
I’ve been dealing with computers and all that shit since they were born, so I might be ahead of a lot of people when it comes to computers. I have two iMacs, a MacBook Pro, and an iPad Pro. I’m pretty computer savvy and Photoshop and that stuff.
I like to do something different and provocative and I know the whole artificial intelligence thing. Everyone is on a war footing but I really wanted to cause a stir. People don’t understand. It’s a modernization of… it’s a sign of the times we’re in. People’s first reaction is, ‘Oh, he’s trying to put all of us artists out of work and I’ll be condemned to draw dicks in men’s restrooms for the rest of my life.’

So they’re all pissed off and think this is the end of the world. This is truly ridiculous, my friend. It’s just a form of art and expression, so I think people should stop being ridiculous and accept it for what it is. It’s a sign of the times.
I don’t like making album covers all the same and I don’t hire artists who do doodles to create those logos that you can’t even read or distinguish. I don’t like that stuff.”
