The takings of Avatar: Fire and Ashes are only just beginning, but thanks to the first box office results in these hours the franchise of James Cameron it just became the one with the most successful trilogy in cinema history.
Including the 450 million dollars accumulated by Avatar: Fire and Ashes in its first week alone, in fact, the Avatar trilogy reached a gross of 5.66 billionobviously also including the takings of the original 2009 Avatar and the 2022 sequel Avatar: Way of Water (which are to date the first and third best takings in the history of cinema, respectively).
This figure far exceeds the proceeds of the Star Wars sequel trilogywhich reached 4.48 billion dollars with The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker: the Lucasfilm saga, therefore, drops to second place in this special ranking.
In third place, however, we have the Jurassic World trilogywhich includes the first film from 2015, the sequel Fallen Kingdom and the finale Dominion and which has accumulated 3.98 billion.
The top 5 also includes the Home trilogy of the MCU dedicated to Spider-Man in fourth place e to the trilogy of The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson in fifth place, while continuing up to the top 10 we also have the de trilogies Lo HobbitOf Deadpoolthe prequel to Star Wars at George Lucasthe saga of Spider-Man by Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and finally that of The Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale.
Among these, the trilogies of Avatar, The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Star Wars (prequel), Spider-Man (classic) and The Dark Knight were directed entirely by a single director; among these, Peter Jackson is the only director to have signed two trilogies. Finally, Spider-Man is the only character present with two different sagas, while the narrative universes of Middle Earth and Star Wars do an encore with two trilogies each.
