Oristano

Production for Centro Cash

Next Sunday 26 May Paolo Zucca will present his latest film “Gospel according to Mary” in his hometown of Oristano, released yesterday in cinemas. A subversive reinterpretation of the story of Mary, from Barbara Alberti’s work of the same name, with a completely unusual setting, in which Nazareth is replaced by suggestive Sardinian archaeological locations – such as the church of San Giovanni di Sinis and the Nuragic archaeological area of Tamuli – which become a universal expression of Mediterranean agro-pastoral civilisations.

“It will be a thrill to be with my daughter and my wife in the Ariston Cinema room where I went to see all the Bud Spencer films as a child! There won’t be wooden chairs, but there will be the unique atmosphere of cinema that is being lost and I want to safeguard,” declares Zucca.

Hence the decision to present the film in theaters in small towns in the following two weeks.

Sardinia is always present in the director’s work, characterized by a powerful visual narrative, both in cinema and in his other creative fields, such as advertising and television, always bringing with it a distinctive vision and a unique ability to surprise and provoke the public.

Among his first commercial projects, ironic and refined, he recalls the commercial of “I centenari” (2014) for the Tourism Department and with particular affection “Full Metal Cash” (2014), created for Centro Cash, built on a reinterpretation in a light and ironic key to the cult scenes of Kubrick’s famous film. The commercial, created exactly 10 years ago, for the ABBI group’s sign dedicated to the world of Cash&Carry in Sardinia, is remembered thus by the director: “I remember the fighting spirit we had at the beginning, and in particular in that production, Francesco Piras ( director of photography), Riccardo De Luca (operator) and myself – all destined to be protagonists of large projects in their sector. The idea, born as a joke to describe the protagonists of the sector as soldiers who fight for quality and for the territory, is linked to the image of a company like this in which I recognize my desire to live and talk about Sardinia, which that I could do forever.”

His career is an example of how an artist can remain faithful to his own cultural roots while exploring different narrative and stylistic territories, but making everything that passes through his direction eternally current.
