Mission impossible, Tom Cruise, the most dangerous accidents and stunts of his career
Descriptive text here

Like every Thursday for a few weeks now, this evening too Italia 1 will broadcast a chapter of the film saga Mission: Impossible. Specifically, it airs tonight Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, which represents the fifth chapter of the saga in which Tom Cruise lends his face to secret agent Ethan Hunt.

Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation: here’s the plot

To underline the continuity of the film saga, Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation picks up where the previous chapter left off. Agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) has just discovered a trade in nerve gas by a terrorist group calling itself the Syndicate. Although this organization has managed to avoid being discovered by the CIA for years, Ethan Hunt is now determined to undermine the cell which could represent a devastating danger for all humanity. However, the agent soon discovers that his opponents are not simply terrorists full of evil. On the contrary, they are trained spies who seem to predict his moves and know his own fighting techniques. Left alone by both the CIA and his organization, Ethan Hunt decides to face this war with the help of William (Jeremy Renner) and Isla (Rebecca Ferguson) and a team that will have his back. But will this be enough to eliminate the danger before it eliminates Ethan himself?

All the accidents of Tom Cruise

Many things can be said about Tom Cruise – and his detractors certainly have a long list of reasons to ”hate” him – but it certainly cannot be said that he is not an actor who dedicates himself body and soul to his work . Literally. In an interview reported on the website ofInternet Movie Data Basein fact, Tom Cruise asserted that when John Woo, for Mission Impossible 2 he asked him to use stunts for the most dangerous scenes, he said no. In the philosophy of the Hollywood star, accepting a stunt double would have meant cheating the public, who paid for a ticket to see him on stage and not another person. This belief meant that Tom Cruise personally took care of every stunt he performed, even the most dangerous and/or absurd ones. Which, of course, has meant that his career is also full of on-set accidents. In the case of Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation, Tom Cruise wanted to create the scene himself in which Ethan Hunt is seen inside an Airbus A400M flying at an altitude of 1525 metres. In order for the scene to be credible and not be ruined by external agents – such as birds, atmospheric conditions or flying bodies such as dust particles and so on -, the director Christopher McQuarrie he decided to mount a sort of screen for the camera, while a specialized optician created unique contact lenses that would have allowed Tom Cruise to keep his eyes open despite the wind which, given the height, was blowing ferociously. During the scene, however, a flying stone actually hit Tom Cruise, as we read above IMDB, who felt his breath taken away by the pain. The actor claimed that the blow was so hard that he thought he was scarred for life, to the point that he didn’t even have the courage to look at the extent of the wound. Fortunately, upon returning to land with the scene completed and resumed, the actor realized that his condition was not at all as serious as he thought. In Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol, instead, Tom Cruise agreed to actually climb the Burj Khalifa tower which, at 830 meters high, is one of the tallest buildings in the world. The scene that Tom Cruise shot took him to a height of approximately 518 meters above the ground which, as he reports Ciak Club, forced the actor to face the danger posed by the wind. The latter, in fact, threw Tom Cruise, making him fly to the side of the building with a force that pushed the star to think he was really on the verge of falling and dying. The Republic, instead, remember how, during the production of Mission Impossible – Fallout the actor was injured while jumping between two buildings in London. The scene ended with Tom Cruise with a injured hip and a broken ankle.

But it wasn’t just the saga of Mission: Impossible to “attempt” the life of Tom Cruise. On Film.it it is remembered how the actor suffered through flight simulators during tests for the filming of the cult Top Gun. The actor was in fact thrown to the ground following the 9.5 g acceleration of the simulator and Cruise risked suffocating on his own vomit. Furthermore, in the scene in which Maverick embraces the lifeless body of his best friend (Anthony Edwards), Tom Cruise’s parachute began to take on water at such a speed that the actor risked being sucked into the depths of the ocean and only the The promptness of the divers was able to avoid the tragedy. Neither The Last Samurai, instead, Tom Cruise came very close to being decapitated. The actor was on a mechanical horse outside the frame when he had to shoot the fight scene against Hiroyuki Sanada. The machine, however, had a malfunction and did not lower when it should have: so Tom Cruise found himself with a real sword a few centimeters from his neck and only Sanada’s control avoided a decapitation in front of the cameras. In The Edge of Tomorrow Emily Blunt (currently in cinema with the hilarious The Fall Guy) recalls that during a car scene with Tom Cruise, she lost control of the vehicle and while the actor shouted at her to brake, they crashed into a tree. Fortunately there were no consequences. In Days of Thunder, Tom Cruise was not allowed to do his own stunts for insurance reasons, but as we read above IMDB this did not prevent the actor from being a “victim” of an accident. In fact, production of the film began when the screenplay had not yet been completed. This meant that, on some days, actors received their scripts on the morning of filming. During a driving scene, Tom Cruise was forced to read lines directly from some cards taped to the windshield of his vehicle. This led to a certain lack of attention for the actor in driving which resulted in a car accident when the car left the circuit and overturned. Even in this case, fortunately, Tom Cruise escaped practically unscathed, despite the damage to the car and the crew’s equipment.

All these incidents, however, demonstrate how Tom Cruise is truly an actor who stops at nothing, not even the risk of losing his life.
