Inside Out 2: here’s why Shame was cut from the film | Cinema
Descriptive text here

Inside Out 2the long-awaited sequel to the Pixar film arriving in June (WATCH THE TRAILER), will introduce new emotions (Anxiety, Boredom, Envy and Embarrassment), along with other characters (DISCOVER THEM HERE). However, there are also different emotions that were cut from the final cut: among these, he reports CBthere are Shame, Guilt, Jealousy and Schadenfreude. In an interview with The Wrapthe filmmakers focused on the former, explaining why they decided to do without it.

For director Kelsey Mann, Shame was “always part of the film” but then he realized that:

It wasn’t fun to watch. It was too heavy. You know when you see a good movie and think: “It was a fantastic movie“. “Do you want to see it again?” “No“. There are films like that. I don’t want to make that movie. I want to make a film that’s really meaningful and when you’re asked: “Do you want to see that movie again?“. You answer: “Yes!” Because those are my favorite movies. And those are the types of films I want to make. And I didn’t want to go back to the world of Inside Out with that character. It’s not that funny.

Shame was also not a real emotion, according to Dr. Dacher Keltner, who collaborated with the film’s team. Thus, some aspects of her converged into Anxiety. Jason Deamer, a legendary art director and character designer at the studio, reveals:

We wondered: “What are we trying to say?“. Shame is a real thing in life, but not everyone goes through it. But anxiety is in all of us. It’s just better. I think that’s a more important thing to talk about than passing some sort of message about not being ashamed. It would have been a sermon. Anxiety, you need it. That’s not 100% bad. There are elements of Shame that are still present. This film has always been about the feeling of not being good enough. And there’s still that element of shame.

Shame was also “an arch-villain”, another aspect that we find in the new emotions, very different from those of the first film. Producer Mark Nielsen explains:

One thing we thought was fun about these new characters is that we’re introducing the next generation of emotions. I think it was Amy Poehler [voce originale di Gioia] to say: “The new emotions are a bit like those of Gen Z“. They are experts and say: “SYes, we know this is happening. We are here for this. You [le emozioni del primo film] you are strong. Your time may be running out a little“. It was a great way for us to dramatize the story and pit these two groups against each other.

What do you think about the fact that Shame will not be present in Inside Out 2? How long are you waiting for the film? Leave a comment!
