Will Sam Raimi ever make Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire? While the chances of seeing him direct Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland increase, the author also reflected on the possibility of returning, almost 20 years after the conclusion of the original trilogy, to the cinecomic world he created.
Speaking to The Wrap, Sam Raimi spoke about his ideas for Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire and illustrated what approach he would take if one day he actually had to realize the project: “I should first know what the next thing that character will have to learn will be, because the protagonist of a film always needs to learn something. I should talk to Tobey and the writers, and figure out with them what kind of personal growth could be at the center of this episode. I think that if we were to make a fourth Spider-Man movie, we should probably first understand what kind of journey Tobey Maguire will have to face with his character, what obstacles he will have to overcome to achieve that personal growth. As we did with the first three films, once we understood the protagonist’s personal journey we would go to choose the villain, who must be a representation of that obstacle.”
In short, it seems like Sam Raimi already has a clear idea of what to do should one day this opportunity arise, which clearly remains very remote for the moment. However, even if Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire remains forever a dream, after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness it doesn’t mean that the author can’t return to directing a Marvel film very soon thanks to the many projects currently in development, nor that he won’t one day ‘meet’ with Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, back in business in the MCU with Spider-Man: No Way Home.
