Shortly after the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessrumors began to circulate that the director Sam Raimi He’s reportedly in talks with Marvel Studios to direct another MCU project, and the filmmaker has since been linked to three different films – one of which may never even get made.
Raimi, in fact, would have been one of “established directors“ which Kevin Feige was looking for Avengers: Secret Warsand more recently, separate reports claimed he was in talks to direct Spider-Man 4 – the sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home by Sony Pictures with Tom Holland. The third project would instead, ironically, be another Spider-Man 4but in this case the direct sequel to his original trilogy with Tobey Maguire.
“I don’t have any plans in my hands at the moment“, however, Raimi told The Wrap when on the red carpet of the premiere of Boy Kills World he was asked about his possible return to the MCU. “But I would love it!“. However, when asked about revisiting his Spider-Man trilogy for another chapter with Maguire, Raimi explained his thought process for the (hypothetical) story.

“I should know what the next thing the character needs to learn is. I should talk to Tobey and the writers and figure out what his personal growth is going to be in this episode. I think if we were to make a fourth Spider-Man movie, we would probably have to figure out the journey that Tobey Maguire’s character would have to go on and what obstacles he would have to overcome to achieve that personal growth.“, he has declared. “And I hope the villain is chosen based on the portrayal of that obstacle“.
For now, therefore, the rumors regarding his involvement would still be just rumors. If there were negotiations between Sam Raimi and Marvel Studios is not known and it cannot be ruled out that the collaboration could materialize in the near future. Certainly, fans of the director would be thrilled to see him working again on a project of this type and it seems that Raimi himself would certainly be interested too if the opportunity arose.
