This is what happened to Anne Hathaway at the beginning of her acting career when the producers of a film in which she starred asked her to kiss a series of potential co-stars.
In the 2000s, she told V Magazine, “it was considered normal to ask an actress to make out with other actors to test chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it.” Anne Hathawaydestined to win an Oscar for her role in Les Misérables, as best supporting actress, accepted the request. “I was so young and terribly aware of how easy it is to lose everything when you’re labeled ‘difficult’ that I just pretended to be excited by the prospect. It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be terrible or hurt me. It was just a very different time and we know better now.”
