Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2, Simu Liu reassures fans: “It’s still planned”

The public has been waiting for years for concrete updates on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings And Simu Liu has always fueled the flame of hope in this limbo phase. Once again, it was the protagonist himself who heartened the fans, specifying that the sequel will sooner or later come to life before their eyes. The first chapter, released in theaters in 2021, introduced a new heroic character in the martial arts expert Marvel universe and, during the post-credit scene, launched an interesting idea for the future of Shang-Chi in the current MCU for thanks to Wong (interpreted by Benedict Wong). Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the first chapter was liked by the public and also satisfied the interest at the box office with a result of 430 million dollars worldwide (despite the pandemic). The sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was officially announced by Marvel Studios in December 2021, following the box office success of the first chapter starring Simu Liu. At the time, the director had signed an agreement to take on the project (both as director and writer) and also work on other projects destined for the Disney+ platform including the TV series on Wonder Man in the process of being processed. Cretton, however, in recent years has also supported the making of other films such as the live action of Naruto. He had also been assigned to Avengers 5, but a few months ago it was announced that the director would not be working on the fifth chapter on the Avengers. So what happened to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2? Simu Liu answered the question posed by a fan via Threadsaccording to which “there was no effort on the part of the Studios to start filming the sequel or even include the character in other Marvel films”. Simu Liu’s response was somewhat short, but it rekindled hope. The actor, in fact, wanted to renew a promise to his fans:

I guarantee you that it is still planned.

Of the sequel we only know that Destin Daniel Cretton will once again direct, as well as Simu Liu will reprise the starring role. The actor, in 2023, commented on the indecision behind the project as reported ComicBook:

I was told that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2 would follow Avengers, but that keeps getting pushed back due to circumstances beyond my control. I hope to have more concrete news to share soon.

About a month ago, however, the scoop expert Daniel Ricthman suggested some updates regarding the project, starting from the possible title assigned to the sequel which Shang-Chi and the Wreckage of Time, which is expected to start production within the next year. Plus, according to Ritchman, the sequel should include gods time travel and also another character of the DefendersWhich Iron Fistpreviously performed by Finn Jones in the TV series of the same name distributed via Netflix. His involvement is also made possible by the revival of Daredevil: Born Again being made for Disney+.
