As expected, Godzilla and Kong continues its dominance at the box office also in this second weekend of programming, forcefully occupying the first position in the ranking of the best takings ahead of the new releases Monkey Man and The First Omen.
The record-breaking blockbuster from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros, which remains on top of the world after dominating the box office for the entire month of March thanks to Dune: Part 2 by Denis Villeneuve, is expected to lose around -63% in its second weekend, obtaining another 30 million dollars from the North American market alone and bringing its domestic total to a very notable 133.3 million: this is a better decline than that of Godzilla and Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters, which dropped by -67%, but clearer than that of Godzilla vs. Kongwhich instead had only dropped by -56%.
Second place will be won by Monkey Manthe new Universal action from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and the directorial debut of actor Dev Patel, which after 4.1 million dollars grossed on Friday should debut around 10.5 million dollars (a little below expectations of Universal which instead had expected a debut in the range between 12-14 million dollars). In third place is The First Omena prequel to Richard Donner’s 1976 film, took in $3.2 million on Friday and will close the weekend at $9 million.
Finally, they will also be included in the top 5 Ghostbusters: Glacial Menace and Kung Fu Panda 4.
