the proof that it wasn’t there – Online Query

by Sergio Della Sala

A few days ago, on April 1st, many national and international newspapers reported the news of a documentary that he would have revealed the explanation of the so-called Syndrome of Havana.

This is the subtitle of the article The Republic:

“A year-long investigation, conducted by TheInsider in collaboration with 60 Minutes And Der Spiegel accuses Russian unit GRU 29155 of using microwaves or ultrasound against US government personnel and some members of their families.”

One of the most significant topics of the investigation is introduced at minute 16.35 of the documentary. Reference is made to a document recovered by Christo Grozevan investigative journalist who works for TheInsidera newspaper run by Russian dissidents.

It is a letter in Russian that would prove the existence of a contract for the purchase of sonic weapons. Grozev claims that the letter is addressed to a member of the Russian services, in particular unit 29155, and that they are therefore involved in the development of secret weapons capable of causing harm to people at great distances using a microwave energy source (like those of kitchen ovens). The documentary focuses on the letter, explaining that it is a receipt for a job that was carried out on behalf of the Russian services and which concerned the “potential capabilities of non-lethal acoustic weapons” (in the documentary it was in English “potential capabilities of non-lethal acoustic weapons…”).

This document really exists. It is indeed addressed to a member of the Russian police and really refers to the potential capabilities of non-lethal acoustic instruments. But the sentence present in the document does not stop at the ellipsis used in the documentary. He goes on to explain that those acoustic weapons are useful

for use in military operations in the city”.

That is, these are devices that come commonly used to disperse crowds in the event of urban warfarethey are also advertised by American companies, such as explain here Wikipedia. In practice, what is presented as key evidence, discovered thanks to the contribution of an expert scholar of Russian intelligence, is one don’t tryshown in favor of an inflated narrative aimed at proving a point.

Note that we discuss a syndrome mentioned just last week two excellent ones scientific articles published by JAMA, one of the most authoritative American medical journals, have demonstrated its unfoundednessAlready questioned by the international scientific community, and even refuted by National Security Council of the United States of America. So a never-proven syndrome would be caused by unlikely microwaves or ultrasounds, which they would burn any biological tissue they came into contact with, without leaving any traces.

The story is interesting, the news captivating, it’s a shame that it’s constructed; And science fiction rather than journalism. Yet it was reported uncritically by excellent journalists from excellent newspapers.
