Eight words were enough to unleash the network against Lady Gaga. The actress will play the role of Harley Quinn in the highly anticipated Joker: Folie à Deuxfor which an official trailer has not yet been released – a matter of a few days – and yet in the last few hours it has exploded controversy over the singer’s accent.
It all started from a popular audio file from the page Discussing Film. Here, you feel the actress of A Star is Born And House of Gucci say a few words but in a very persuasive and intimate tone: «You can do anything you want… you are Joker” (you can hear it via https://twitter.com/DiscussingFilm/status/1775205988636704993). However, the very way he pronounces this phrase has infuriated some fans and non-fans alike.
«It’s just his normal voice» is one of the calmer comments found under the original post, while for another the “fault” lies with Margot Robbie: the colleague would have done “irreparable damage” to the character she brought to life in two Suicide Squad and in the spin-off Birds of Preysporting an accent close to the one heard in the series Batman: The Animated Series of 1992 which marked the debut of Harley Quinn.
For the moment, many prefer the star’s version of Barbie to Lady Gaga’s version without the accent, while others make fun of the audio file by claiming that Harley Quinn is launching his own ASMR channel (autonomous sensory meridian response). The controversy is animated and bipartisan: in fact, there are those who point out that too Joaquin Phoenix to play Joker he used his normal voice, while for others the tone of this Harley Quinn is right for the character.
In short, we haven’t seen even a second of the film yet but there is already something to discuss. It’s just prejudice against a sequel, Joker: Folie à Deuxwhich many have already complained about its existence and the fact that it will be a musical? What do you think? Tell us yours in the comments.
