Arrives at the cinema on January 8th with Universal Pictures Song Sung Blue – A Melody of Love, a film inspired by the true story of a Neil Diamond tribute band and starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson. It is directed by Craig Brewster and today we show you an exclusive preview of an Italian clip.
“I need to believe that the American dream is still possible” – declared the director Craig Brewer after seeing a documentary about a Milwaukee couple who had formed a tribute band of Neil Diamond. The band was called Lightning & Thunder and it was itself the American dream come true, first of all because its protagonists were two “losers”, who belonged to the working class and had gone through, each in their own way, uncertainties and pain. In them, however, the love for music was stronger than anything else, and in fact they arrived from the garages to the bars of Memphis and beyond, against all odds and expectations.
Out on January 8th with Universal Pictures International Italia, Song Sung Blue – A Melody of Love therefore tells the amazing adventure of Mike Sardina e Claire Stengl in art Lightning & Thunder. An alcoholic on the road to recovery and a Vietnam War veteran, he and a single mother with mental health problems found the strength to move forward and overcome difficulties in mutual love. In this man and this woman Brewer he also saw that hint of madness that he loves so much in people and soon a screenplay was born. Finally they arrived Hugh Jackman, who has several film musicals and Kate Hudsonwhich we remember for example in Nine Of Rob Marshallanother famous musical film. Jackman he accepted the role immediately, later explaining: “It seems like such a thin and arbitrary line between someone becoming a huge star or not, and this film is a tribute to all those people who continue to play without saving themselves, still holding down three jobs. For me Song Sung Blue it’s a love letter to all of them.” Reading the script, Kate Hudson instead she dissolved into tears: “What really stuck with me was realizing that we don’t make films like this anymore, and how incredible it was to read one that wanted me as the protagonist.”
