Tomorrow afternoon the new bookcrossing station will be inaugurated in the “Padri Aldo e Bramante Marchiol” green area, in Baldasseria. It was created by the Regional Forestry Corps and will be managed by the children of the CASA ASTI Youth Project in collaboration with the Civic Library “V. Joppi of Udine. Much awaited by schools and citizens of the neighborhood, this little house of books represents a significant step in promoting reading and sharing culture within the Udine community, starting from the neighborhoods and green areas frequented by the little ones.
The new bookcrossing station will offer all citizens, especially girls and boys, a unique opportunity to exchange books for free, leave their favorite readings available to others, while at the same time borrowing others from those left in the designated spaces .
The open-air library essentially looks like a small house, complete with roof and windows, built inside a tree trunk fixed to the ground. The windows, of different sizes, will be the shelves on which the shared books will be placed. They can be opened and closed in a waterproof manner, they will protect the texts from wind and rain.
The inauguration of the bookcrossing station is part of the Storie in città exhibition, created by the Itaca cooperative in collaboration with Damatrà. The aim is to bring books and reading closer to young people, as well as in schools, in places to be revitalized in the city and in parks, to make them more accessible to all. All this by combining local realities with the support of institutional resources, operators and volunteers from the city.
In fact, at the end of tomorrow’s inauguration, “Rainbow of stories” will also be organised, a series of activities and workshops dedicated to the little ones to conclude the afternoon dedicated to reading together.
CITY STORIES
“Stories in the City” is an initiative that presents itself as a review dedicated above all to narrative, identifying reading as a “place” and a “space” of intertwined relationships between different readers and listeners. Reading, in fact, becomes the common thread that unites the many realities already active in the city’s neighborhoods. There are still many events scheduled in the coming weeks by Damatrà and Casa Asti and each of these initiatives has a reference color or a “special” characteristic.
