Bishop Giovanni Nerbini has appointed Fulvio Barni (photo) as the new director of the Office of Social Pastoral and Labor of the Diocese of Prato. Twenty-four years old, with a degree in Political Science, he is pursuing a master’s degree in Politics, Institutions and Market at the University of Florence and is among the youngest in Italy to hold this position. Barni is from the parish of San Paolo, where he follows the youth group, and is involved in social issues with the Progetto Policoro. Together with the director, the diocesan team was renewed, composed of: Lorenzo Vacirca, Gabriele Agati, Benedetto Mucci, Sara Paulli, Francesco Spinelli, Maria Laura Cheli and Ester Macrì. Barni replaces Michele Del Campo, appointed to lead the Office by Bishop Agostinelli and then confirmed by Bishop Nerbini. “I thank Michele for having led the diocesan office of social and labor pastoral care with great passion and competence – says Monsignor Nerbini -, he has shown that he knows how to keep up with the news and problems of the time, interacting and dialoguing with the institutions to promote and propose solutions to the social issues of the territory”. The first commitment for Barni as director is to participate in the Catholic Social Weeks from 3 to 7 July in Trieste. In addition to him, the delegation from Prato includes Sara Paulli and Viviana Manasci. The bishop will be present as a delegate for social problems, work, justice and peace, and the care of creation of the Tuscan Episcopal Conference.
