The first artists who will have the responsibility of representing their countries of origin on the Latina track come from Ukraine, the People’s Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Peru and the Czech Republic.
STRAKHOV FAMILY
Ukraine – Hand to hand
FIVE YEARS AFTER THEIR FIRST PARTICIPATION, THE STRAKHOV FAMILY RETURNS FROM UKRAINE
The Strakhov family has made the history of Circus in Ukraine: the Strakhovs are acrobats and at the same time tiger trainers. Danylo, who has been on the ring for over 40 years, is firmly committed to training new generations of artists: already in 2019 he participated in Latina at the twentieth edition of the Festival with his son Oskar. Five years later, their performance is enriched thanks to the participation of Danylo’s youngest daughter: the very young Karolina. The Strakhovs present a number of hand to handa discipline that requires great harmony between those who practice it; nothing better, therefore, for a father who intends to pass on to his two children all the love and passion for circus art. In the seven and a half minutes of their performance, two different styles alternate: that of the gangsterentrusted to Oskar, now fifteen years old, and that of dance which sees Karolina as the protagonist at only eight years old.
LAN SHI XIONG
People’s Republic of China – Soft Wire
THE ANCIENT CHINESE ARTISTIC TRADITION AGAIN REPRESENTED AT THE ITALIAN FESTIVAL.
The People’s Republic of China boasts one of the richest circus traditions: from generation to generation, the Chinese artistic school has preserved the imprint of an ancient and rigorous culture, imbued at the same time with impulses towards innovation and the sumptuousness of the installations. Lan Shi Xiong has been practicing acrobatic disciplines since 2000; trained at the Guangxi Arts Schoolhas specialized in the so-called for ten years soft wireone of the three variants of the tightrope balancing acts in addition to the high wire and the low wire: the soft wire is distinguished by the weak tension of the tool. Lan Shi Xiong’s professional experience is already rich: the years spent first in Las Vegas and then in Europe have made her an artist appreciated all over the world as attested by an important recognition obtained last year in Kazakhstan.
TROUPE AZIZOV
Kazakhstan – Russian Bar
SPECTACULAR, DANGEROUS, EXPECTED BY THE PUBLIC: THE RUSSIAN BAR AMONG THE COMPETING DISCIPLINES
Troupe Azizov is a group of young artists from Kazakhstan. They present a number of Russian barone of the most complex and dangerous acrobatic disciplines. The elastic force produced by the deformation of the bar together with the ability of the carrier are the engine of the aerial evolutions of the agile: the Russian bar of the Azizov Troupe is embellished with tricks that denote the possession of particular skills: somersaults, twists, twist e flip forwards and backwards are just some of the most spectacular acrobatic passages of the performance. On the track since 2015, the troupe has performed in numerous European and Asian countries, winning various awards.
TROUPE ORTIZ
Colombia, Peru, Czech Republic – High wire
THE MULTICULTURAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE CIRCUS ARE PRESENT IN THE DIFFERENT NATIONALITIES OF THE ORTIZ TROUPE
The Troupe Ortiz is a partnership between seven young artists of three different nationalities: Colombia, Peru and the Czech Republic; their leader, the Colombian Diego Alexander Ortiz, learned the secrets of his specialty from his father, high wirewhich he has been practicing for over twenty years. It is a number dear to the circus tradition to which, in the collective imagination, even the metaphorical meanings associated with the image of the tightrope walker are commonly referred. But when the tightrope walker is replaced by an entire troupe, the images evoke danger, audacity and complexity: these are the implications of the legendary seven-person human pyramid that the Troupe Ortiz presents during the 12 minutes of its high-altitude performance.
