Matteo Imbrò leaves Trapani and signs a two-year deal with VL Pesaro

Matteo Imbrò after the promotion to A2 obtained last season leaves the Trapani Sharks and returns to the cadet championship where he signed a two-year contract with VL Pesaro. Last season Imbrò averaged 6 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists with the Sicilian team. This is the press release from Trapani:

“President Antonini and the entire club thank Matteo Imbrò for having entered the history of the city with that memorable basket that generated so much joy in all of us and so much pain for our opponents”.

This is the announcement of the hiring by VL Pesaro:

“Experience and reliability in the control room, as well as a lot of personality and determination: the Carpegna Ham Basket Pesaro announces that it has defined a two-year agreement with Matthew Imbro. Born in 1994, 192 cm and weighing 86 kg, he arrives in Pesaro fresh from the promotion to Serie A just achieved in Trapani after the one achieved in the past with Treviso. A tall playmaker and key player in decisive moments, with an excellent outside shot, he knows how to manage the team well with the right rhythms. Thanks to these characteristics, he can also support a playmaker in the role of guard.

These are the first statements from Matteo, the new red and white player: “I am very happy to wear the VL jersey for the next two seasons since Pesaro is a place with a great passion for basketball. So far I have played there as an opponent and I remember very well the great warmth of the fans who are present in thousands at the Vitrifrigo Arena. Without a doubt, the presence of coach Pino Sacripanti was also very important, he wanted me at all costs: I will try to help Pesaro get back where it deserves to be”.

Imbrò’s career began in 2009 with the Virtus Siena jersey: he then landed at Fortitudo and Virtus Bologna with which in 2012/2013 he played all the matches of the Serie A championship. He remained with the Bianconeri until 2015 when he moved to Ferentino in Serie A2 and then to Treviso. He wore the Venetian jersey from 2017 to 2022, winning the A2 Italian Cup and promotion to the top championship in 2018/2019. After a brief stint in Verona, in 2022 during the season he signed with Scafati, again in Serie A: he concluded the year playing the A2 playoffs with the jersey of his city, Agrigento. In 2023/2024 he was one of the great protagonists of Trapani’s promotion to the top division: he traveled with an average of 24.5 minutes, 9.75 points and 3.5 assists. In the decisive match – at the PalaDozza against Fortitudo Bologna – he scored a three-pointer from nine meters that ensured Trapani’s promotion to Serie A.

In 2013 in Tallinn (Estonia) he won the gold medal at the European Under 20 Championships with the national team trained by Coach Sacripanti and with the new red and white Eric Lombardi as his teammate.

Welcome to Pesaro, Matteo!”
