(…) These poems by Marcello further push his bet with life, with love, with the lyrical sense of existence. It is true that the Muse, omnipresent in the existential, human, affective world of the author, brings the sails to the poet’s little boat and the oars, his verses can rely on the wind to plough the sea in all the seasons of the year and of life. Love, like a Matisse, dances blue with the body – memory of the Woman, of a woman, of women. I believe this is indisputable, the true world of this obstinately lyrical exuberant poet with a vision I would dare say Franciscan of nature, of life, of society and sociability is such, “condemned” to exalt seasons, moods, pleasant places, ancestral and living memories. The Muse is life, but not in contrast with death, but it is life that lights up, life lit up, in the colors, in the senses, in dreams, in the thrill of everyday life, in Nature, in the eyes, in the heart, of the poet. (…) – Roberto Dall’Olio

The title of this latest publication by Marcello Buttazzo is already a clear declaration of the poiètic corpus that the reader will find inside the book. Because words have a meaning. Almost always they have more than one. And when it is the Poet who puts them next to each other, then (if you want to read and understand) you must take care to enter his world.

I FOLLOWED YOU ON ROUTES.

An emblematic title, as I have just noted, because – among the various meanings – the one I have chosen (hoping to have grasped the Author’s intentions) perfectly portrays the personality of Marcello Buttazzo. I mean his inclinations, his passions, his interests… There is no doubt that our man is attentive to the world around him, especially to what happens to the men and women who (for whatever reason) frequent the margins of that world (or, in any case, are given to him to live), gifted as he is with a (now) rare sensitivity: that which makes one suffer from the pain of others and rejoice in beauty wherever it can be found.

And this agitation that is shaking me is only the desire to see you here beside me.

I don’t want to fall prey to disenchantment,

I want to go back to daydreaming. The illusion, I want.

You who bind me. You who reveal yourself among the clouds. The darkness, I want.

When in the moon well

I come to get lost in search of you.

And the twilight, the orange twilight. The seraphic evening, overflowing with you.

This agitation, I want. The agitation that burns inside me is your face,

it’s your breast,

all the splendor I long for so as not to die.
