TRIUMPH IN PIOMBINO FOR THE 16-YEAR-OLD FROM GALLIATESE IN THE 5KM AND 2.5KM OPEN WATER CROSS COUNTRY

Novara – Great feat by the young standard-bearer of Libertas Nuoto Novara Pietro Colombo that last weekend, in the Tuscan waters of the sea of Lead he even conquered two Italian titles at the national cross-country championships. In the “Open Water” event Colombo, trained by coach Enrico Ferrero and followed in the race by the technician Federico Gioffrein the Boys category, he beat the competition by completing the 5 km distance in 58’46”4, beating the second placed, Simone Adragna (Pol.Mimmo Ferrito ssd) by almost 5 seconds and the third, Michele Pezzoli (Blu ssd arl) by almost 6 seconds.

Colombo, born in 2008 and resident in Galliate, then repeated the title by becoming Italian champion also in the 2.5 km, where he crossed the finish line first again in 27’39”9, leaving Andrea Di Piazza, silver medalist at almost 4 seconds and Ivan Sartor (Zeus Lab Montebelluna), bronze medalist at just under 6 seconds.

For Libertas Nuoto Novara these are the first historic gold medals at the Italian open water long distance championships, after the Italian indoor title in the 3km also signed among the Boys by Andrea Zanellini in 2021, when he preceded his teammate Thomas Signini.

In the same two races in Piombino another Libertas champion placed in the Italian “top five”: Matteo Federico Ignat in fact came 4th, just missing out on the podium in the 2.5 km and 5th in the 5 km.
