An unauthorized party was organized on the Isola delle Femmine in Palermo: the intervention of the Coast Guard and the Financial Police was necessary
On theIsland of the Femaleslocated in a protected marine reserve area in Sicily, a unauthorized party: for this reason the Coast Guard and the Guardia di Finanza had to intervene and mobilized to stop the “clandestine” party.
Unauthorized party on the Isola delle Femmine
The unauthorized party that took place on the Isola delle Femmine, in the province of Palermo, it initially started within a club on the coast, and then moved to the islet which is a reserve and protected marine area. The participants reached the island by boat, continuing the celebrations in an exclusive place: among them there were entrepreneurs, well-known professionals and people from the Palermo bourgeoisie.
The event required the intervention of Coast Guard e Financial Police: the agents mobilized and reached Isola delle Femmine aboard patrol boats. Once they reached the islet, the military identified everyone present: the call to report involved a dozen patrols including financial police, police officers and carabinieri to identify all the people who participated in the unauthorized party.
Much information about what happened on Isola delle Femmine, where a unique snail was discovered in 2021, has been released by Lipu, the Italian League for the Protection of Birds. Vincenzo Di Dio, the director of the reserve managed by Lipu, said:
“From 1998 until yesterday it had never occurred to anyone to take…assault the islet is a nature reserve – we read on ‘SkyTG24’ – a very serious thing indeed, also because in this period there are species that nest on the island and from March 1st to June 30th visits are suspended, as is written on the island where the regulation is posted in several places”.
And again: “I did an inspection on the island, a real mess. Many cigarette buttsglass bottles, plastic bottles and lots of glasses. They piled up some wood and wanted to make a bonfire. They tell me that they are well-known entrepreneurs and professionals. A real disaster. The reserve is accessible, but through the paths and trails. Many people arrive on the islet and leave this reserve area better than they found it, certainly not in this way”.
Where is the islet located?
Also called Isola di Fuori, the Isola delle Femmine is located in Sicily, in the Tyrrhenian Sea: it is a private property even if it administratively belongs to the metropolitan city of Palermo and despite being a nature reserve established in 1997 by the Sicilian Region.
The confirmation of the islet, located in the stretch of sea between Capo Gallo and Punta Raisi, is oval: this characteristic is due to the erosion of the strong winds that blow in the area. The surface is 0.14 square kilometers: on the Isola delle Femmine, where in May 2024 some bathers spotted sea cockroaches in large quantities, there is a promontory with a breathtaking view of Mount Pellegrino, the island of Ustica and Capaci.
The suggestive tower built near the highest point of the islet, also called Outside Tower: dates back to the 16th century and can be traced back to the Florentine architect Camillo Camilliani. The plan of the tower is square with wall thicknesses more than two meters high which made it a fortress included in the defensive system of the coastal towers of Sicily, established against the attacks of the Barbary corsairs.
