On Sunday, June 30, an event was held in the gardens of Villa Portolano to present the book by author Salvo Barresi entitled “Girgenti Incantata: Testimonianza di Viaggiatori nel Tempo” (Enchanted Girgenti: Testimony of Time Travellers). The meeting was greeted with enthusiasm and palpable interest, with warm applause and lively participation from the audience.
As reported on the cover of the book, Barresi’s work recounts the testimonies of famous writers and poets who, between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries, visited and described Agrigento, then Girgenti. Names of the caliber of Dumas, De Maupassant, Vuillier and Goethe who, together with others, become the narrators of these thirty stories composed of experiences and memories.
The meeting was skillfully moderated by Vanessa Castronovo of the Blog Become Agrigento, and the book, in addition to the author himself, was introduced to the public through the interventions of Professor Attilio Dalli Cardillo, Professor Maria Grazia Intravaia, Don Mario Portulano and Marcello Giavarini, respectively curator of the preface and author of the afterword.
“It is a book that shows the old Girgenti through the eyes of illustrious travellers from a different culture” said the former President of Akragas, who encouraged the author to continue on the same path, underlining the importance of similar initiatives capable of telling the story of our city.
