Stop the heat and sun. In Puglia, 28 hours of rain and bad weather are coming. The civil protection has in fact issued a yellow alert throughout the region starting from 8 pm on Monday 1 July until midnight on Tuesday. A wave of bad weather that will therefore ruin the early summer celebrations on Italian beaches with a drop in the influx of bathers as already occurred by comparing the data provided by the Italian Beach Resort Union. According to the latter, in fact, this year there would be fewer presences on Italian beaches compared to those recorded in the same period in June 2023, with foreign tourism however remaining a lifeline for operators. “The beach resorts in all regions – says Antonio Capacchione, president of the Union adhering to Fipe Confcommercio – are recording a double-digit decrease in presences on our coasts compared to the same period last year”. Italian holidaymakers have deserted our beaches, mainly due to the adverse weather conditions. We are optimistic because the bookings for July and August give us hope”. The disturbance arriving in Puglia from central Europe could therefore lead to a further drop in attendance on the beaches, despite the scorching climate recorded over the last weekend.
