Three choirs, four solo voices, the orchestra of the Giulio Briccialdi conservatory. This is the ensemble foreseen for the Requiem Mass in C major by Charles Gounoud which will be played tomorrow evening, 2 July, at 9pm in the church of San Francesco in Terni; it will be repeated on 3 July, again at 9pm, in the Cathedral of Orvieto.

Known to the general public for his famous “Ave Maria”, Gounoud was a deeply religious man and was the most prolific composer of church music in nineteenth-century France. The Requiem which will be played in the church of San Francesco accompanied the musician on his last day of life. In fact, the evening before his death the composer played the Requiem on the piano for a friend of his, and the following morning he passed away.

In addition to the orchestra made up of teachers and students of the Briccialdi conservatory, three choirs will perform in tomorrow’s concert and the day after tomorrow: San Francesco di Assisi from Terni, Madre Speranza from Collestrada and Assolo Choir from L’Aquila. The solo voices will be those of the soprano Rachele Barchi, the mezzo soprano Chihiro Nagumo, the tenor Domenico Maglioni and the bass Danilo Paludi.

Entrance to the concert is free.
