Fatal accident, councilor Muzio on trial for road homicide

Annalisa Muzio, the urban planning councilor of the Municipality of Latina, is sent to trial for vehicular homicide. This was decided by the judge for the preliminary hearing of the Court of Latina Giuseppe Cario, accepting the request of the public prosecutor Marina Marra and setting the first hearing of the trial for 10 April 2025 before the single judge Enrica Villani.

The councilor, assisted by the lawyer Renato Archidiacono who requested the dismissal of the case, on September 14, 2021, while driving her car, hit 75-year-old Giorgio Pedaci, a retired teacher who was crossing the road at the intersection of Via dei Monti Lepini and Via dei Volsini. The man lost his balance and fell to the ground, hitting his head. Rushed to the Santa Maria Goretti hospital where doctors found a serious head trauma, he never regained consciousness and died a month later.

At the conclusion of the investigations carried out by the Carabinieri, the Prosecutor’s Office first entered Annalisa Muzio in the register of suspects, then requested that she be sent for trial for road homicide, a request reiterated today in the hearing. The Prosecutor’s Office itself emphasized that the victim had violated the Highway Code by crossing without using the pedestrian crossing that was less than 100 meters away. The defense instead requested a dismissal and the GUP, at the conclusion of the council chamber, ordered that the suspect go to trial.

Ten people have joined the proceedings as civil parties: the professor’s partner, a cousin and eight other family members. “We await the trial with confidence and serenity,” commented lawyer Archidiacono at the end of the hearing, “during which we will demonstrate the total lack of responsibility of my client.”
