Parma and Como, welcome back to Serie A!
Parma and Como, welcome back to Serie A!

The first two Serie B teams to qualify for the top football league were Parma e As: the two clubs thus return to Serie A after a triumphal season, which allows the teams’ fans to celebrate a championship always lived in the top areas of the table and thus returning to the Italian football that counts after a few seasons of absence.

Parma back in Serie A three years after relegation

Let’s say straight away that of the two teams, the one that had to undergo minor purgatory was Parma: the yellow and blue were in fact relegated three seasons ago and already last year (eliminated in the playoffs by Cagliari who were then promoted) it seemed clear that the team had all the cards in order to play for the best opportunities to return to the top flight.

That of the league leaders was one ride triumphalwhich ended in the away match in Bari, where the Crusaders drew 1-1, securing their ticket to the football that counts the most. A sufficient point, because thanks to the defeat of Venezia in Catanzarogave the club the certainty of returning to Serie A.

The president of the club was also celebrating, Kyle Krausewhich has invested huge resources in order to get Parma back into the top flight as soon as possible: in the last financial year alone, in order to guarantee business continuity, it has budgeted over 350 million euros, a capital injection which has served to counterbalance (and not only) the result for the period at -80.5 million euros.

The significant economic investment was then accompanied by the technical choice linked to the confirmation of coach Fabio Pecchia, from whom Parma intends to start again to obtain salvation next season. The last detail, which confirms the will of the owners to invest even more in the club, the 100 million euro construction site for the new Tardini stadium.

Como, the joy after the long wait

Speaking of important properties and large budgets, the same can be said for the Asfresh from much more tiring vicissitudes: the team returns to Serie A after 21 years characterized by mixed results, two bankruptcies, as many corporate reconstructions.

The appearance in Serie A, more than two decades ago, left particularly painful traces: three consecutive recessions followed until C2, the loss of the playouts and the subsequent bankruptcy. At that point – it was 2005 – Como experienced three seasons in Serie D until the return to professional football in the 2008-09 season, with the victory of the Second Division playoffs and the return to the third series.

The following decade was certainly not easy: only one year in Serie B and a new bankruptcy that brought Como back to Serie D. However, professional football made its return in 2018/19 with the arrival of the new ownership, that of the brothers Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Bambang HartonoIndonesian tycoons convinced that something great could be built on the shores of the lake.

With a total wealth of 50 billion euros, the two brothers are today among the 100 richest men in the world. Resources that allowed the Hartono family to build the stadium, acquire the Mozzate sports center and launch Como TV.

Foundations that, evidently, make Como today not only the richest club in the Serie B that it is abandoning, but also the one that can express the greatest firepower in Serie A. We will see, during this summer, how the club will prepare the team to face the top division, and if Como will be able to transform itself into a new Monza or, even, into something more surprising.
