PALERMO – They keep 27 dogs segregated at home, in cramped cages and in precarious sanitary conditions: the police report them. These are two Palermo residents aged 46 and 38, MB and GM, who now have to answer for abandonment and animal abuse. The discovery was made by officers from the San Lorenzo police station, after a report regarding a house in via Castelforte from which a strong smell of rotting flesh was coming.

DOGS LOCKED IN CAGES AND AMONG EXCREETS

The firefighters intervened on the spot and forced access to the premises. Once inside, the police officers found themselves in front of small and medium-sized dogs locked in small cages and in conditions that the police headquarters defines as “oppressive”. In total, 27 dogs, three of them just two weeks old, were living among the excrement and in worrying hygienic-sanitary conditions: many were without microchips.

DOGS ENTRUSTED TO VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATIONS

The two reported, husband and wife, said they were the owners of the dogs and that they had left for work reasons. The dogs, after the necessary care and microchipping, were entrusted to some voluntary associations. Investigations are still underway to establish the origin of the animals and their destination.
