Passing of the Bell at the Lucca le Mura Lions Club

During the evening of the Passage of the Bell, the Lucca le Mura Lions Club retraced the fundamental stages of the 2023-2024 year (collected in the “Pocket Yearbook” distributed to those present) and was also able to share the latest, relevant results. It was Councilor Moreno Bruni, in the presence of Mayor Mario Pardini, who made the announcement that the Municipality has accepted the request, which arose during the September 2023 conference dedicated to “The figure and work of Romano Silva”, to dedicate a street to the scholar’s memory. As the Councilor explained, the Toponymy Commission has in fact approved the naming of the small pine park located in San Marco, adjacent to Via Isa Belli Barsali, to Romano Silva, the art historian student of Giulio Carlo Argan and author of important publications on the city and the villas in the area.

Furthermore, the project for the creation of a plaque in memory of Michele Puccini Senior, Giacomo’s “Dad”, as he himself loved to write, was presented. The initiative was promoted by the Lions Club Lucca le Mura and immediately received the patronage of the Municipality of Lucca and, subsequently, also that of the Committee for the centenary celebrations. The Club thus wanted to capture the intersection between the one hundred years since the death of Giacomo Puccini and the one hundred and sixty years since that of his father, Michele.

The plaque installation project was curated by the architect Leonardo Casini and has already received – on June 5th – the approval of the Superintendent Dr. Angela Acordon and is being examined by the Landscape Commission after having been authorized by all the condominiums of the Corte San Lorenzo building. Once these steps have been completed, it will be possible to install the plaque in the space provided on the façade on Via di Poggio, thus satisfying, at least in part, a wish of the family as evidenced by the letters between Giacomo Puccini and his sisters. Michele Puccini Senior was a composer and teacher, as well as director of the Conservatory, at the time named after Giovanni Pacini.

The “Passage of the Bell” concluded both the evening and a social year full of initiatives and events.

The outgoing President Dr. Pietro Fazzi wanted to underline the relationship of friendly collaboration throughout the year with Prof. Maestro Federico Favali, a collaboration particularly important also for the continuation and improvement of the procedures not yet concluded.

President Fazzi expressed his best wishes to the new president for the 2024-2025 year and informed those present of his transfer to the Antiche Valli Lucchesi Lions Club starting from 1 July.

To the thanks addressed to his outgoing colleague, President Favali added “to all the members for the trust they have shown in me. I have clearly in mind the motto of the IPDG Giuseppe Guerra ‘Together in Harmony’. I, on the other hand, am a professor of harmony. Let us move forward in harmony in the service of our community”
