ROVIGO • The 37th edition of DeltaBlues arrives in Annonaria squaredove Thursday 4th July a double concert is scheduled, included in one of the longest-running international music festivals in Italy.

To open the dance, at 9pm, Sylvie and The Bluelinesa young and fresh formation, which embodies the deepest aspects of the multifaceted cultural roots of its members.

Following, at 10 pm, Helga Plankensteiner Jelly Roll Plays Morton Quintet. In this new project, dedicated entirely to compositions by Jelly Roll Morton, a great pioneer who called himself the “inventor of jazz,” Helga Plankensteiner presents an original formation with three low-register wind instruments: baritone sax, bass clarinet, and tuba. The polystylistic arrangements reveal surprising aspects of this genius from the dawn of jazz.

“It is a successful fusion of tradition and avant-garde: the melodies are typical of ragtime, Morton’s most beautiful themes such as Bogaboo, Freakish, Black Bottom Stomp, grab you from the first notes, while the solos are very modern, even free in some passages. The alchemy between choral parts and solos is perfect.“ (Alfredo Sgarlato, Albenga Corsara).

Helga Plankensteiner studied classical saxophone at the Innsbruck Conservatory, with Florian Bramböck and jazz at the Trento Conservatory. You also attended numerous jazz seminars, among others with Dick Oats, Steve Slagle, Gary Bartz, Bobby Watson, Bob Bonisolo, Heinrich von Kalnein, Sandro Gibellin. You have played with Carla Bley, the Torino Jazz Orchestra and the Italian Sax Ensemble. In 2013 she was named among the best new talents by Musica Jazz magazine. Since 2017 she has played with the Wolfgang Schmidtke Orchestra and she conducts the Alto Adige Youth Bigband with which in 2017 she won the SIAE “Sillumina” tender. In 2018 you were awarded the Jazz Prize of the City of Innsbruck.

The band is formed by: Helga Plankensteiner (baritone, sax, vocals) – Achille Succi (bass, clarinet) – Glauco Benedetti (trumpet), Michael Lösch (piano) – Marco Soldà (drums).
