LA SPEZIA – “I am pleased to announce that our city has officially started the procedures for the candidacy as Italian Capital of Culture 2027”

The Mayor of La Spezia, Pierluigi Peracchini, announced it, explaining the why and how as follows: “This initiative represents an extraordinary opportunity to enhance the rich historical, artistic and cultural heritage of La Spezia, as well as promoting our excellence at a national and international level. Today we approved the stages for submitting the participation: a process that will conclude in the spring of 2025 and which, if successful, will bring La Spezia’s culture to the center of attention in Italy, allowing us to develop a series of initiatives that will involve the entire community, from associations to businesses, to citizens. La Spezia is experiencing a true cultural renewal: we have renewed the agreement with the Lia family for the enhancement of the Lia Museum, signed a public-private partnership with the Carispezia Foundation for the relaunch of Camec, renovated the Media Library and the Museum of the Seal, and we are enhancing the Castello San Giorgio and the Ethnographic Museum with new exhibitions. This revolution involves all the cultural sites of the city and will be completed by 2027, to show our beauties to all of Italy and the world”.

This morning, at the proposal of Mayor Pierluigi Peracchini, the Council resolution was approved by the Administration to express the interest of the City of La Spezia in participating in the awarding of the title of “Italian Capital of Culture” for the year 2027 as part of the policies of cultural promotion and valorization of the excellence of the territory.

The “Italian Capital of Culture” initiative aims to support, encourage and enhance the planning and implementation capacity of Italian cities in the field of culture. The ultimate goal is to increasingly spread the recognition of the value of the cultural lever as a tool for social cohesion, integration, creativity, innovation, economic growth and well-being, both individual and collective.
