How much did injuries impact Vicenza’s playoff final?
“Yes, Vicenza did not arrive in the best conditions to face a team like Carrarese who were physically fit and have great quality. When you have these defections and you are not physically fit in the double confrontation, Carrarese deserved it and Vicenza must be satisfied with what they did. Vicenza however remains a great team that must return at least to the second division”.
We start again from Vecchi, is it the right choice?
“I think there have never been any doubts, since he arrived the team has changed gear. It would have been crazy to change such a good coach who gave the team an identity and who has proven to be worthy of an important place like Vicenza.”
Will we need ideas on the market, especially in attack?
“He will have to sign more than one striker, Ronaldo and Ferrari are out, Della Morte should stay in Vicenza and this is important, but we will need to buy at least 2-3 strikers. The place is important and the ambitions are important, we will need to take players with pedigree and who have already won championships.”
What must Vicenza do to improve what it has done in recent years?
“The team struggled before Vecchi arrived, they were always conceding goals and to win a championship you have to concede few goals. If you have a team that is fighting for the top you need defensive solidity, especially in Serie C”.
What do you expect from the next Serie C and Group A?
“In the C championships there is always a surprise, I don’t expect one like Mantova because it is difficult to see a championship like that again. Balance will always reign but the surprise is around the corner, Vicenza will have to build a team to get to first place and avoid the playoffs, because the favorite team does not always come out of the playoffs”.
Is not playing for several weeks in the playoffs an advantage or a disadvantage?
“When you get to the playoffs, nothing matters anymore, maybe those who come in behind do a little better. There are always a lot of games, whoever comes in second enters 2-3 weeks later but we’re still talking about a lottery, you never know what can happen.”
