The Financial Police of Parma executed a preventive seizure decree issued by the investigating judge of the Court of Parma, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor’s Office, against a man already convicted of mafia-type association. The decree ordered the seizure of the sum of money as well as goods and other utilities available to the suspect for an amount of over 170 thousand euros.
The provision arose from investigations carried out on the initiative of the financiers of the Economic-Financial Police Unit of Parma on compliance with the anti-mafia legislation by people with specific criminal records and residents in the province.
The anti-mafia legislation in fact imposes on people convicted with a final sentence for particularly serious crimes, the obligation to communicate, for ten years and within thirty days of the fact, all changes in the size and composition of the assets, concerning elements of no less value at 10,329.14 euros.
The suspect was definitively sentenced in 2014 by the Court of Assizes of Appeal of Catanzaro to imprisonment (3 years, one month and 10 days), with disqualification from holding public offices for five years, for mafia-style criminal association, as it was believed to be affiliated with the Vrenna-Corigliano-Bonaventura Ndrangheta gang.
The subsequent financial investigations of the Fiamme Gialle, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Parma, made it possible to reconstruct, through the analysis of current accounts and prepaid cards used by the suspect, huge incoming financial flows, in the period from 2017 to 2021which the suspect failed to communicate to the Economic and Financial Police Unit of Parma, competent due to the subject’s residence, in violation of the anti-mafia legislation known as the Rognoni-La Torre law.
The further investigations of the Parma financiers, carried out with the aim of reconstructing the real assets of the suspect, have made it possible to hypothesize that the same, despite being a fixed-term employee, is the real director of a Parma company, owner of a bar business in Oltretorrente, the Matis Cafè in via D’Azeglio, only formally registered in the wife’s name.
The preventive seizure measure carried out last evening therefore concerned, in addition to the suspect’s current accounts and personal financial relationships, also the entirety of the company’s shares and assets instrumental to the exercise of the bar business.
The Prosecutor’s Office underlines the relevance of the anti-mafia prevention legislation which requires a systematic verification of all changes in assets that have occurred over time on the account of, among others, those convicted of mafia-type association. What also emerges is the significant amount of assets identified and not communicated to the competent Finance authority and finally the attention paid by the judicial authority to conduct of fictitious interposition which made it possible to identify and seize assets and liquidity available to a person, already convicted of the crime of mafia-type association, to protect and monitor the legal economy.
