SPOLETO – A book that collects various board games, such as Sudoku or Forza 4, plus an “eco” game about opposites dedicated to environmental and sustainability issues. It is the original work that earned the 3A and 3B of the Friendship-Margine Blanket Primary School, Massa and Cozzile (PT) winning the competition – Mò and Nini for the Planet – final stage of food and environmental education project promoted by Monini in collaboration with La Fabbrica and the Gribaudo publishing house. A project to which Tuscany has joined with conviction with as many as 50 schools involved. The winner will receive a 1,000 euro shopping voucher for educational material and a supply of Monini extra virgin olive oil.

The 2023-24 edition marks 10 years of the “Monini per la Scuola” educational path, which has made it possible to raise awareness of a correct relationship with food and a correct agro-environmental culture among approximately 900 thousand children and young people from institutions of all order and rank along the Peninsula.

The topic, which has great value for a Made in Italy food company like Monini, is also of great relevance and social relevance: according to data from the Ministry of Health today over 3 million people suffer from disorders of nutrition (there were around 300 thousand 20 years ago) and in the last 3 years new cases have more than doubled. It is mainly adolescents who are affected, but unfortunately the onset is increasingly earlier. The data on the overweight and obesitywith approx 20% of children between 8 and 9 years old are overweight and almost 10% are obese according to a recent study by “Okkio alla Salute”, the national surveillance system coordinated by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS).

“We believe that education, and in particular school, can have a central role in promoting a correct food culture – he commented Maria Flora Monini, at the helm of the company together with his brother Zefferino Monini -. We are the country cradle of the Mediterranean Diet and we have the duty to restore to the new generations that joyful bond with food and the environment that has been somewhat lost lately. This is why we are particularly proud of the project, which we will continue with ever greater commitment.”
