Florence – The Don born in Viareggio was officially ordained archbishop of the Tuscan capital with a solemn ceremony in Santa Maria del Fiore. His CV includes a degree in theology, many years of priesthood in Tuscany but also 11 years as a missionary in Chad

Gherardo Gambelli is the new archbishop of Florence. The ordination was held at the Cathedral of S. Maria del Fiore with a celebration presided over by Cardinal Giuseppe Betori, outgoing archbishop of the capital. The ceremony was attended by the governor Eugenio Giani, the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella and the Archbishop of Lucca, Monsignor Paolo Giulietti who sent his best wishes for good ministry to the new archbishop of Florence. Shortly before the start of the function Gambelli addressed the representatives of the institutions and citizens. Originally from Castellano, Gambelli was born at the Tabarracci hospital in Viareggio on 23 June 1969 by choice of his mother. Raised, also from an ecclesiastical point of view, between Valdelsa and Florence, the new archbishop has always maintained a close bond with Versilia where he spends his holidays, in the family home in Vittoria Apuana. Ordained a priest in 1996, graduating in Theology in 2000, Gambelli was a priest in several Tuscan parishes and from 2011 to 2022 he was a missionary in Chad. Having returned to Florence, since 2023 he has been parish priest of the Madonna della Tosse in Florence.
