Platì: Mayor Rosario Sergi declared out of office by the Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria.

The Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria declared the mayor of Platì, Rosario Sergi, to be dismissed, overturning the previous acquittal sentence of the Court of Locri, following the appeal by the Territorial Government Office of Reggio Calabria, led by the Prefect Massimo Mariani. This measure is considered unjustified and in contrast with the concerns of the President of the Anti-Mafia Commission, Chiara Colosimo, who recently complained about the lack of democratic representation in the territories during a visit to San Luca.

After the visit of the President of the Anti-Mafia Commission to San Luca, Hon. Chiara Colosimo, another tile falls on Locride, undermining the democratic stability of the entire district.

The mayor of Platì, Dr. Rosario Sergi, is declared dismissed from office following the ruling of the Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria, in reform of the first degree acquittal sentence of the Court of Locri. The decision occurred following an appeal by the Territorial Government Office of Reggio Calabria, then headed by the Prefect Massimo Mariani; this appears to us to be completely unjustified and unjustifiable compared to the intervention of President Colosimo, who in yesterday’s meeting complained about the lack of democratic representation of the territories.

The Platì City Council, governed by Dr. Rosario Sergi, elected by popular acclaim in 2016 (with a turnout of around 80% if AIRE members are excluded), first suffered the resignation of the entire minority and then distance of twenty months of 2/3 of the majority group, which determined its decline and subsequent commissionership, which was followed by the establishment of the Access Commission, appointed by the current Prefect of Naples Dr. Michele di Bari, which resulted in the dissolution due to mafia infiltration.

Dr. Rosario Sergi, by virtue of this procedure, was subjected to the provision of ineligibility for candidacy, on the proposal of the then Minister of the Interior Hon. Domenico known as “Marco” Minniti, which already then appeared unfair, unjustified and unjustifiable, more typical of a regime Khomeinist, given that the great accusation for Sergi was that of having promoted, by virtue of article 21 of the Constitution, a demonstration in dissent to the words expressed by the Minister himself in an international meeting, which also outraged the late President Jole Santelli who he hurled at the Minister.

Following numerous requests from the Honest People of Platì during the two years of the institution’s administration, the “Liberi di Ricominciare – Sergi Sindaco” group legitimately stands again and wins the elections again. In August ’22, the Territorial Government Office proposed to the City Council the dismissal of the Mayor, followed by the legal investigation requested by the City Council which rejected the Prefect’s request. At the same time, Prefect Mariani lodges an appeal pursuant to art. 70 TUEL at the Civil Court of Locri, which rejects the Prefect’s request with the words “inapplicability of the Severino Law, in the absence of criminal convictions”, and therefore the Mayor and the entire Council remain in office.

The territorial government office, represented by the current Prefect of Palermo, former ordinary commissioner of the Municipality of Platì in 2011, intends to lodge an appeal, highlighting with this act that the Mayor was not welcome to represent the Municipality. So much so that during the years of the Sergi mayoralty a very serious event occurred, the fire at the door of the municipal house, for which we are still waiting for the instigators and material executors, which did not represent an attack on the Sergi council, but rather on the WHOLE honest community of Platì and consequently to THE ENTIRE ITALIAN STATE, if we can still consider ourselves such.

Well, today we find ourselves with this new ordinance which undermines the democratic stability of the country and of the entire district, which has the sole purpose of blocking Platì’s socio-economic renewal action.

The order will be challenged at the Supreme Court of Cassation, and at the same time the suspension of the sentence issued by the Court of Appeal will be sought. Dr. Rosario Sergi believes it is necessary to close the procedural process which will have to shed light on the matter, also bringing the matter to the attention of the Constitutional Court (if the Supreme Court deems it necessary), to restore hope in the institutions to young people and the entire community platiese. As of now, Dr. Sergi is committed to re-proposing his candidacy at the next useful electoral round, such as to allow the Citizens to express their opinion on his work and that of the Council, which since 2020 has committed itself to re-emerging the potential of Platì, through a constant comparison with the Territory, the Associations and POLITICS.

All the discussions with supra-municipal bodies have produced a notable volume of funding, which has equals in the republican history of Platì, which have made it possible to improve the school infrastructure (thanks also to the intervention of Minister Valditara and President Occhiuto), the road system , the sports complexes, the water and sewerage network; above all, separate waste collection was activated, which made it possible to improve urban decor and no longer have piles of rubbish in the streets.

Prof. Roberto Romeo, with his political, social and cultural preparation, as well as a worthy representative of the Cirellese community, will lead the Municipality until the next electoral round. The Mayor places his trust and respect in him and is sure that he will complete the administrative task.

Long live the Republic, long live Italy, long live democracy, long live the thoughts and works of Giuseppe Mazzini, who for the freedom of his ideas was forced into exile by a totalitarian regime, which we trust our beloved Italy will no longer have to suffer .

ROSARIO SERGI
