The demonstration called by the Linea d’Ombra association, always at the forefront in welcoming migrants coming from the Balkan route, took place yesterday afternoon in Trieste, with the participation of other solidarity organizations in the city. Objective: to raise awareness among citizens and institutions of the serious violations of the right to asylum taking place in Trieste and throughout Europe.
In addition to the gathering in Piazza del Mondo, a spontaneous demonstration brought the border mothers’ sheet in honor of the bodies of migrants in front of the Prefecture. A sudden movement, neither shouted nor threatening, which took the police by surprise with its calm and serene strength.
After the clearance of the Silos, a dilapidated structure abandoned to decay, but at the same time the only roof over the heads for hundreds of migrants in transit in the city and coming from the Balkan route, the institutions never provided better alternatives, nor did they take steps to find a solution for the occupiers, reports Linea d’Ombra.
The association is calling for the opening of a low-threshold dormitory in via Gioia, which can offer shelter and welcome to those fleeing situations of war, violence, abuse and hunger.
