beaches stormed in search of a bit of refreshment

Red heat waves for an already hot weekend. Today, Saturday 22 June, Bari is – together with Campobasso – the hottest city in Italy, the only one together with the Molise capital to have been marked with a red sticker by the Ministry of Health. In the city it has already exceeded 30 degrees but the perceived temperature, according to what the main national weather portals report, is 35 degrees around 3 pm. Temperatures still lower than the peak two years ago: on 22 June 2021, in fact, in Bari it reached 37 degrees.

Everyone at the seaside

To defend themselves from this strong heat wave, which according to the ministry’s forecasts should ease on Sunday (orange “only” sticker), the people of Bari and tourists reacted in the most obvious way possible: flocking toon the city beaches to enjoy a few hours of relative freshness in the water. Those who can also flee outside, towards the beaches further south, as demonstrated by the long queue of cars on the ring road.

The plan of the Municipality of Bari

To combat the heat, which is destined to increase as the weeks go by, the Welfare department of the Municipality of Bari has prepared an operational plan to deal with inconveniences and problems, with particular attention to elderly people and people in fragile situations. On days when the heat is more intense, for example, mineral salts and water will be distributed to the elderly and vulnerable people. The plan involves over 50 public and private entities, including Civil Protection, Local Health Authority, Federfarma, professional associations, local police, general practitioners and 118, as well as the private social network, Caritas and lay and Catholic volunteering.
