MILAN – There are approximately 90,000 signatures to the petition on health in Lombardy, 38,000 online and the rest on paper. La Lombardia SiCura Committee filed this morning with the protocol of the Lombardy Region: “The great consensus received by the petition is the clear confirmation of the heavy state of discomfort in the population and the urgency of structural actions to modify the management of healthcare in Lombardy, for a full restoration of the service public healthcare in all its aspects, starting from the effective cutting of waiting lists”, the representatives of the Committee said in this morning’s Press Conference Marco Caldiroli, Democratic Medicine, Vittorio Agnoletto, Health Observatory, Massimo Cortesi Arci Lombardia, Monica Vangi secr. CGIL Lombardia, Federica Trapletti SPI CGIL Lombardia and Andrea Villa, ACLI Milan.
Efficiency and dignity
“To restore dignity and efficiency to the public health service in the Region – they added- recent regional initiatives are certainly not enough, taken during the collection of signatures, such as the extension of the opening of public structures exclusively with extraordinary hours of social and health workers, or the extension of a role, which for us is improper, of pharmacies, as well as the difficulties of making ” accept” the single CUP that it belatedly declares its intention to introduce. Initiatives that go in the same direction as the government ones, which they do not address the root cause of the healthcare disaster in Italy.”
The initiative, launched on March 1st and concluded on June 10th, saw widespread mobilization in all the territories of Lombardy of the member organizations and associations to which was added the initiative of various municipal councils who approved agendas with the contents of the petition. Among these, the Municipality of Milan which joined yesterday, the Municipality of Mantua and numerous local authorities.
The Committee announced the next initiatives and appointments: a public demonstration towards mid-September and the presentation of the petition to the III Regional Health Commission, which is also engaged in this period in the discussion on the 2024-2027 Social and Health Plan.
Memberships
Dozens of associations, committees and political groups have joined “La Lombardia SiCura”. throughout the region, the activation of self-organised local entities has been particularly numerous and widespread, providing “training” for the future collection of signatures for the referendums on regional law 33/2009 on healthcare, for which the appeal process against the decision of the majority of the Regional Council to prevent it.
The objectives
The key points of the petition were 5: 1. Single booking centre; 2. Reduction of waiting lists by eliminating abuse of agendas; 3. Stop the use of coin-operated doctors (not employees) and hiring staff; 4. Coverage of healthcare costs in nursing homes and improvement of services for the elderly 5. Strengthening of local services, particularly for prevention.
