Church of San Benedetto and cloister open to visitors

BRINDISI – From 21 to 23 June beauty is for everyone thanks to the Italian Touring Club (Tci) with “Open for you under the stars”: a large widespread celebration, on the occasion of the 130 years of the Tci, with visits to places exceptionally open for the occasion, so as to allow everyone to know and admire small and large treasures of the country. Churches, palaces, monuments and archaeological areas will see extraordinary and evening openings to tell stories, reveal spaces not normally accessible, rediscover places and details in suggestive environments, until sunset and waiting for the stars.

In Brindisi, the appointment is for Saturday 22 June from 9.30 to 12.30 and from 19.30 to 22.00 at the Church of San Benedetto and its cloister.

You will have the opportunity to discover, exceptionally for this occasion, accompanied by Touring Club volunteers, not only the timeless beauty of the Church of San Benedetto – which houses artistic treasures and ancient testimonies of the city’s thousand-year history – but also the original cloister of the former monastery, adjacent to the church itself. An authentic work of art from the medieval period, with a square shape, with a fascinating four-light portico, polygonal columns, figured capitals and walls that retain traces of ancient frescoes, including a 12th century Annunciation. Furthermore, the cloister is also the scene of important archaeological discoveries, such as burials dating back to Roman and medieval times, which offer an unprecedented window into Brindisi’s past.

Participation in this event is by reservation. “Open for you under the stars” is the result of over ten years of experience of the Italian Touring Club project which, since 2005, has been committed to spreading awareness that the heritage of our country is a shared good and that, therefore, it is everyone’s duty to take care of it treatment. Precisely for this reason, to participate in the initiatives on 21, 22 and 23 June, a free donation is expected to support the projects of the Italian Touring Club, so as to continue to take care of Italy as a common good.
